Is the price of a power drill going up soon? Probably not, if Lowe’s and Home Depot are any indication. Even though Lowe’s gets about 20% of its goods from China, it mirrored its top rival in committing to keep prices “competitive,” saying on an earnings call that it would work with suppliers to manage any potential cost hikes. The company gets about 60% of its goods from the US – and it’s working to further diversify its supply chain as well. “We’re not donating share to any competitor by sitting back and not being priced competitively across any of the categories that we’re selling, whether they’re domestic or imported,” CEO Marvin Ellison said. Lots of approaches to fighting malaria try to either kill the mosquito, block it from biting people or treat and prevent the infectious disease in humans. But what about treating the mosquitos themselves, so they don't go on and infect people? That's the interesting new approach being advanced by researchers at institutions including the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Malaria is spread by mosquitos infected with a parasite. So the team identified a group of about two dozen drugs that work to kill the parasite. The idea is that when mosquitos land on bed nets treated with the compounds, they'd be treated for the parasite. The approach still needs to be tested further, but the researchers will have to find new funding sources amid a National Institutes of Health funding freeze.
