US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba failed to reach an agreement on a trade package on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit, an outcome that leaves the Asian nation inching closer to a possible recession as the pain of US tariffs hits its economy.
“We will continue to actively coordinate with the United States to reach an agreement that is beneficial for both countries, without sacrificing Japan’s national interests,” Ishiba told reporters on Monday in Calgary in between G-7 meetings. “There are still some points on which the two sides are not on the same page.”
