Is the Bird Flu Outbreak in a Lull? Who Knows

The White House’s lack of communication makes even good news hard to trust.

No news isn’t always good news.

The lack of regular, clear communication from the Trump administration on the bird flu outbreak has made it unnervingly difficult to answer a basic question: Where, exactly, do things stand with H5N1?

The overall sense from the wide range of experts I spoke with is that the outbreak has quieted down. It’s been several months since the last report of a human infection and fewer herds seem affected. Meanwhile, the hope is that as wildfowl migration abates, we might see fewer poultry outbreaks.
