Is the Bird Flu Outbreak in a Lull? Who Knows
The White House’s lack of communication makes even good news hard to trust.
No news isn’t always good news.
Photographer: Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images North AmericaThe lack of regular, clear communication from the Trump administration on the bird flu outbreak has made it unnervingly difficult to answer a basic question: Where, exactly, do things stand with H5N1?
The overall sense from the wide range of experts I spoke with is that the outbreak has quieted down. It’s been several months since the last report of a human infection and fewer herds seem affected. Meanwhile, the hope is that as wildfowl migration abates, we might see fewer poultry outbreaks.
