UK inflation jumped more than forecast to its highest rate in over a year as households were hit by a raft of price increases, prompting investors to pare bets on rate cuts from the Bank of England.

US President Donald Trump's claims that White Afrikaner farmers in South Africa are suffering a genocide and his offer of refugee status to them has become a divisive issue in a country with a troubled racial past. My colleague Rene Vollgraaff travelled to one of the southern hemisphere's biggest farm exhibitions to see who these farmers are and found an airstrip full of private planes and million dollar tractors on sale. But she also found a wall of remembrance with the names of farmers who have been murdered, part of a broader crime problem in a country where more then 27,000 people are killed annually. While five out of South Africa's seven billionaires are Afrikaans as are many CEOs some members of that community feel denied opportunities in the multi-racial democracy South Africa has become. Together with photographer Leon Sadiki we spoke to them in rundown parts of Johannesburg and nearby Krugersdorp. Some, despite having no farming background, are keen to take Trump up on his offer in order to get a fresh start because they feel their homeland has left them behind. But others, bound to the land by their language and culture, insist they won't leave the country of their birth.
