The first edition of the new-look Bloomberg Brussels Edition newsletter is out – our daily take on what's happening in the heart of the EU. Today marks the unofficial "rentreé" when EU officials return to their desks after the summer break, but there's already been an unexpected development. A chartered plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was disrupted by what Bulgarian authorities say was GPS jamming by Russia – a reminder of what's at stake as war continues to rage in Ukraine. Meanwhile, European Council President Antonio Costa used a key-note speech to address full-on the challenges for Europe after a bruising summer, acknowledging the “frustration felt by many Europeans” who argue that the EU has been too passive in its trade battles with Trump. While the EU doesn’t welcome tariffs, it has to be “honest about the broader picture,” he said. “Escalating tensions with a key ally over tariffs, while our Eastern border is under threat, would have been an imprudent risk.” Make sure you're signed up for the latest edition each weekday: https://lnkd.in/dQ3Kzygc
